The Farmers Ditch Company operates and manages the Farmers Ditch that runs through Northeast Boulder. Water is diverted from Boulder Creek at the canyon mouth at the beginning of the white water course in Eben G. Fine Park. The ditch flows through the Mapleton Hill, Newlands, Old North Boulder, and North Boulder neighborhoods before crossing the agricultural properties north of Jay Road. After passing though Boulder Valley Ranch Open Space the ditch ends on the west shore of Boulder Reservoir.
Today water in Farmers Ditch largely serves as irrigation supply for Open Space managed farmland and as part of the municipal water supply for the City of Boulder. However the ditch still provides irrigation water to over 75 homeowners, HOAs, and farms.
